Centennial Teacher of the Year
Teacher receives top honors

Golden Lake second grade teacher,
Taryn Flolid, is Centennial Education Association's 2009 Teacher of the Year.
Taryn has taught 25 years at Centennial.

She earned her bachelor's in elementary education from the University of Minnesota and her master's in curriculum and instruction from St. Cloud.
Taryn says, “It's so rewarding to work with second graders because they take off and fly with both their reading and math skills. The transition from ‘learning to read' to ‘reading to learn' happens at this age, and it's so fun to be a part of the excitement they experience with learning. Taryn's positive attitude makes a difference in her classroom.

Other activities she has been a part of include Student Assistance Team, Professional Learning Community Leader, Elementary Report Card Committee, Art Committee, and the Gifted Advisory Committee. She is also a student mentor and has sponsored several student teachers.

Her interest in her ancestry has involved her with the Norskland.com website as a co-moderator for genealogy and Norwegian handicrafts. She also is a member of the American Swedish Institute and is published in the book Glimt fra Gulen.

As a Centennial Education Association candidate for Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Taryn will be compiling an application portfolio of information including letters of support.
Send letters to Taryn at 4707 North Road, Circle Pines, MN 55014.
