Centennial's Legislative Priorities

View a video on why Centennial asks voters for support.

Help support Centennial Schools!

Contact the legislators who represent the District and ask them to support the following priorities. Your help in letting legislators know these issues are important can help make a difference in the lives of Centennial students. Due to the state budget surplus and Minnesota Bills SF 0189 and HF 0181, Centennial could receive about $1.1 million in additional funding if these bills are passed, and they will not raise property taxes. That would help us minimize budget cuts starting in 2018.

Below are letters you can cut and paste into an email and send to the legislators representing Centennial.

Letter in Support of Bills HF 0181 and
SF 0189 for Funding Equalization

(Cut and paste the following letter into an email, print out and mail, or call your legislator. Please add your name and address.)

I am a resident within the Centennial School District.  I recently noticed bills HF 0181 and SF 0189, which are geared toward a number of low-funded districts, have an opportunity to make a huge difference for Centennial. These specific districts, which includes Centennial, are often property-poor as well which further exacerbates the issue and makes it difficult to catch up through voter-approved referendums. I know of your passion to support our great District and would ask you to support this critical legislation.  Please let me know your intent to personally support and garner additional support.

Thank you.

Letter in Support of Increasing the Formula and Funding Equalization

(Cut and paste the following letter into an email, print out and mail, or call your legislator. Please add your name and address.)

Education is vitally important for our children and our state.  To preserve the quality of education in our district, I believe the following must happen this legislative session.

  • Increase the basic formula by a minimum of 3% each year of the biennium so our schools can keep up with rising costs and possibly reduce the amount of upcoming cuts the district is making because the school levy failed this November.
  • Lower the taxpayer cost for school levies through increased equalization so low property wealth districts like Centennial can afford to support our schools through school levies.  Funding for this should come from the tax committee because this is property tax relief not money that goes to the schools.

I ask that you not only support these measures but also work within your caucus and with leadership to build support.

Thank you for all you do to support our community.

Sincerely,
