River Otters
A Pathfinder for Blue Heron Elementary School 2nd Graders

River Otter Pups

.

River otters are smart, curious animals. They are best known for their playfulness. Female otters are very good mothers and teach their babies to swim and catch fish. This may explain why otters are both playful and easily trained.

If you go for a walk in the woods look for a long, dark brown animal with a flat-looking head and a long thick furry tail. When swimming, otters will often poke their heads out of the water and puff, snort, hiss, and look around (muskrats and beavers never do this).

HAVE FUN! But walk quietly because you might scare the otters away!
