A Blue Heron 4th Grade LabLinks Project

Introduction: Take a trip to Amazonia

Background: On your trip to a tropical rainforest in South America you met a scientist named Dr. Rivero. During your visit he kept telling you that the rainforest is threatened by people who want to harvest ALL the trees.

Your Task: After your visit you start to wonder why Dr. Rivero was so concerned. So what if people cut down a few trees? What could that hurt anyway? Still, Dr. Rivero's concerns about the rainforest have you wondering. As you think about what he said, you decide to find out more about the rainforest and discover why saving it is so important.

How?
1. In order to understand why the rainforest is so important you must find out about the animals and plants that live there.  You will begin at the floor layer of the rainforest.

2.  Use the Inspiration software on your computer to create an informational web containing what you have learned about the rainforests.  Be sure to include the following information:

  • List the 4 layers of the rainforest
  • Name the animals in each of the layers
  • Include facts about each of the animals you named

Good luck!
