"Click on the picture to hear some revolutionary War music."

It's tough being a kid!

For my sister and me living in Virginia in 1775, just getting through the day is full of challenges and worries. Life on our farm is hard with lots of chores that need to be done, and we have very little money to spend.  Many things that we need have to be brought here from far away England.  And now, we even have to pay taxes on those things to King George, or we have to do without.  It's just not fair!  My parents and their friends are really mad!

Father says, "We are not represented in the British Parliament, but they tell us what to do and tax us for even the smallest necessity!"  He say there are more and more brave people speaking out against all the unjust laws and taxes that are forced upon us. Maybe Father is right, but he has to be careful who hears him.  Ideas like that can be dangerous these days. Some people have been hurt badly, like at the Boston Massacre five years ago.

Father also says that most of the colonists have had enough.  And that many of the important leaders in our 13 colonies are saying it's time for action.  It's time for a revolution!

Really? I am beginning to wonder what other things have happened that seem to make people in the colonies so angry and just who are these leaders that want a war?

Task

1. You and a partner will create a Powerpoint slide show about two (2) key people and two (2) events that helped cause the American Revolutionary War. Your slide show will be presented to your class at the end of the project.

2. First you need to find out about important events and key figures of the American Revolution. A good way to do that is to look at Key Events Leading to the Revolution.

3. When you have decided what people and events you want include in your Powerpoint project, please check with your tech teacher to see if you can begin doing Internet research on the topics of your choice.

Process

1. After your slide show topics have been approved by your tech teacher, use the Internet links below to search for more information about each topic.

2. Your slide show MUST include the types of information listed on the Data Collection Form, which your tech teacher will give you when they approve your research topics.

3. When your team has collected all its required data, begin planning your final webquest project, the Powerpoint slide show.

4. When everyone in your class is ready to start creating their Powerpoint presentation, your tech teacher will do a quick Powerpoint review.

Conclusion

Knowing about the historical events and great people of the Revolutionary War era gives us a greater sense of who we are: Spirited, freedom-loving people.  It helps us understand why our government was formed the way it was, and why our laws are designed to protect our individual liberties.
