The Case of the Favorite Web Site:
Become a Web Sleuth. A LabLinks Project for Blue Heron School |
HELLO SLEUTHS!
Are you saying "What's a sleuth"? A sleuth is like a detective. Today you will become a web sleuth looking for clues on the Internet.
Did you ever wonder what's out there for kids on the Web? Here's your chance to find out! Working with a partner you will become a web sleuth.
The mystery you will be trying to solve is which author web site kids at Blue Heron like the best.
In order to help solve the case, you need to check out some great book and reading sites on some super authors. You and your detective partner will,
- investigate four web sites about great books and authors.
- fill-out a table with information from the sites.
- vote on your favorite of the four sites.
- tally the votes.
- make a bar graph showing the results.
Hopefully you can solve the case and share your findings with the 1st graders or your reading buddy.
HOW?????? Your teacher will match you with a partner. Together you will be looking at the sites listed below.
1. You need to see if these sites
- have book titles listed,
- tell about the life of the author,
- can write or email the author, and
- are games and activities for kids to do and make.
2. Fill-out a table with your partner on the things you
find on each web site. Click on this picture of Nate the Great to see and print the table.
3. Get a voting ballot from your teacher. Vote for the site you liked the best and put your ballot in the ballot box.
4. After everyone has voted, your teachers will help you tally the ballots.
5. You will count the tallies and use the Create a Graph web site to make a bar graph your teacher will give you.
