Fifth Grade Homework Policy

The fifth grade teachers will not be assigning work as "homework" on a regular basis. Work time will be given in class to complete daily assignments. Anything that your child does not complete in class is to be finished at home and brought back to class on the following school day. If good use is made of this time, no more than 45 minutes a night should be necessary.

It is important to remember, however, that children all work at different rates. Some may have very little to bring home, whereas others may have more. Therefore, working with your child to schedule a required study time is a great idea. Setting aside a 45 minute time block each night helps to instill excellent study habits that will be imperative in the coming years. If your child does not have any assignments to complete at night, this time can be spent on relevant activities such as reading a book, brushing up on math facts, etc.

If there is a pattern of spending more that 45 minutes each night, please contact your child's teacher to discuss possible interventions.
