CMS Students Selected as Prize Winners for the Annual "Patriot's Pen Essay Contest"

Seventh grade students Ashley Friedman, Britta Bergdahl and Kai Hermodson were named winners of the annual Patriot's Pen Essay Contest by the local VFW. Friedman is the first place prize winner named by the VFW Post #6316. Students in Mr. Domschot's class participated. This year's essay theme was "American's Gift to My Generation."

Each year more than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW's Patriot Pen Essay Contest. The students will advance to the next level of competition. The national first-place winner receives $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $54,500. Each first-place winner receives a maximum of $500 at the national level.
