A  Project for 4th Graders

While on a field trip to the Minnesota State Capitol
in St. Paul, you run into...

Governor Tim Pawlenty.

He is excited to see you because he has a fantastic job for you! Governor Pawlenty needs you to create an informational brochure about Minnesota. When new kids move to Minnesota, his office can send your brochure to their new home. The brochure will tell them all about what Minnesota has to offer

Your Mission: You and your partner have offered to help Governor Pawlenty. Your task is to gather information about Minnesota's tourist attractions, outdoor activities and historical sites which would appeal to families. You and your partner will then create a brochure using Microsoft Publisher that Governor Pawlenty can be proud to send to new students in our state.

LabLinks: In order to create an accurate brochure, you must first do some research on what there is to see and do in Minnesota. Listed below are some links that will provide lots of information and facts you can use to create your Minnesota brochure. Use your Minnesota Research Form to record your notes. You may also want to use other links that the websites give to gather more information that you might need. Remember that a quality brochure should be eye-catching and be informative. So, be looking for neat Minnesota pictures too. Be sure to save any pictures you want to add to your brochure in your desktop folder.

Step 1: You will need a Mouse Operator and a Pencil Operator. You and your partner will trade roles every time you go to the computer lab.

Mouse Operator: Navigates through this webquest by clicking on the different links to gather information about Minnesota.

Pencil Operator: Writes down the important information that you discover while doing this project for Governor Pawlenty.

Your notes must be in your own words! You must compile information in all of the required categories.

Step 2: Once you feel that you have enough Minnesota information to create a quality brochure, you need to create a rough draft on paper using sketches and written information.  A reminder that your tri-fold brochure must have six sections, including a cover and a back cover.

Step 3: Once the teacher has approved your  rough draft, you are ready to create your brochure. Your teacher will help you use Publisher to create the brochure.

I hope you create a quality brochure that Governor Pawlenty is very pleased with. We all want kids who move to Minnesota to feel at home and excited to live
in our state. Lets hope it is because of the great information
that you have supplied to them!
