NWEA MAP Test (September 9-27, January 6-23, April 27-May 15)


  • MAP testing is a district determined computer adaptive assessment given to students in grades 2-5 during the fall and spring (winter for select students) in the areas of reading and math. MAP data is used to measure the growth of every student over time, compare and predict student achievement and growth over time, create and reinforce evidence-informed instructional practices, and evaluate programs and identify professional development needs. Each test takes roughly 60-75 minutes to take. Results will be communicated to families via mailings, handed out at Parent/Teacher Conferences, or can be found in the Parent Portal via Infinite Campus around mid-semester (fall test) and end of school year (spring test).


aimsweb (September 9-13, January 6-10, May 4-22)


  • In accordance with the Centennial School District’s Literacy plan and World’s Best Workforce plan, aimsweb is an assessment that is given locally and is used to help provide appropriate instructional support for students in the area of reading. It is a curriculum-based measurement used for universal screening and progress monitoring of students to help identify students eligible for academic interventions in Title I and CERF programs. Students in grades K-2 will participate in the aimsweb Early Literacy assessment of Letter Naming Fluency, Letter Sound Fluency, and Nonsense Words. Students in grades 2-5 will participate in the aimsweb Reading CBM (Curriculum-Based Measurement) assessment. Individual tests take 3-5 minutes to complete. Test results are provided to parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences and can be found on the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. Parents of students that qualify for Direct Services will receive a phone call from the classroom teacher for notification and a 2nd phone call from the CERF teacher once service groups are created.

CogAT Test (October 21 - November 7)


  • CogAT testing is a district determined test administered in grades 2 and 4 to evaluate specific reasoning skills in the areas of Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal batteries. This test assesses cognitive development, the ability to learn new tasks, and problem solving abilities. The CogAT test is administered in early November of the school year.

ACCESS for ELL and Alternate ACCESS for ELL

Listening: January 28 (Grades 2,3), January 29 (Grades 1,4,5), February 20-24 (Kindergarten)
Reading: January 30 (Grades 2,3), January 31 (Grades 1,2,4,5), February 4 (Grade 2), February 20-24 (Kindergarten)
Speaking: February 4 (Grade 3), February 5 (Grades 2,3), February 6 (Grades 2,4), February 7 (Grades 1,4,5), February 11 (Grade 1), February 20-24 (Kindergarten)
Writing: February 11 (Grades 4,5), February 12 (Grades 2,4,5), February 13 (Grades 2,3), February 14 (Grades 1,3), February 19 (Grade 1), February 20-24 (Kindergarten)

  • ACCESS for ELL is a state required assessment used to measure English language proficiency based on Minnesota Standards for English Language Development and to meet the requirements of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Students will be assessed in the areas of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The length of each test is: Reading – up to 35 minutes, Writing – up to 65 minutes, Listening – up to 40 minutes, Speaking – up to 30 minutes. Results will be mailed home in late August or early September.
  • Alternate ACCESS for ELL is an individually administered English language proficiency assessment developed specifically for English learners who have significant cognitive disabilities severe enough to prevent meaningful participation in the ACCESS assessment. Students will be  assessed in the areas of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The length of each test is: Reading – up to 20 minutes, Writing – up to 20 minutes, Listening – up to 20 minutes, Speaking – up to 20 minutes. Results will be mailed home in late August or early September.

MCA Test 


Reading: April 6-7 (3rd grade), April 15-16 (4th grade), April 13-14 (5th grade)
Math: April 20-21 (4th grade), April 22-23 (5th grade), April 27-28 (3rd grade)
Science: April 29 (5th grade)

  • The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment test is the state determined test used in schools (grades 3-5) to measure student achievement in the areas of reading, math, and science (grade 5 only). State tests are given to students in a district once a year, based on their grade level and subject area. These tests help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards and also meet federal and state legislative requirements. The estimated length of each test is: Reading 2 ½ - 3 ½ hours, Math 1 ½ to 2 hours, Science (5th graders) 1 ¾ hours. Results will be mailed home in late August or early September.

MTAS (March 16 – May 1)


  • The Minnesota Test of Academic Skills is an alternate assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. It is a performance-based assessment administered and scored by the test administrator using a script and a task-specific scoring rubric. The MTAS is used to measure student progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards and meet the requirements of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). MTAS Reading and Math is given to students in grades 3-5. MTAS Science is given to students in grade 5. Test administration times will vary for each student, and the state does not provide estimated test administration times for the MTAS. Results will be mailed home in late August or early September.
