Special Education

State and federal laws require every school district to identify students, both public and nonpublic, who may be eligible for special education and related services. In Minnesota, homeschools are classified as nonpublic schools. Centennial School District has a dedicated special education team that provides intervention supports, conducts evaluations, and delivers specialized instruction and related services.

Shared Time

Homeschooled students who reside within Centennial School District may enroll in select elective courses, such as band or choir, as shared time students.

Enrollment for shared time classes may be limited based on available space in the program, class, grade level, or school building.

Please reach out to the Homeschool Liaison if your student is interested in shared time.

Request for Aid

Minnesota homeschool students may receive certain educational services funded by the state. It helps ensure all students have access to important learning resources. Supports may include health services, guidance and counseling, and textbook aid.

Reimbursement rates for the 2026-2027 school year are as follows:

  • Textbooks, tests, and instructional materials: $138.43 per full-time student
  • Student health services, such as school nursing: $89.75 per student
  • Guidance and counseling support: $376.69 per student

To be eligible for reimbursement, homeschool families must complete a Nonpublic Student Aid Request Form by October 1 each school year.

Please note that due dates are mandated by the state, and late submissions may prevent the district from reimbursing you.
