Priorities

WHERE WE ARE NOW

The Long-Range Planning Committees identified four key areas that represent the greatest needs across the district and the priorities our community values most. These focus areas align with Centennial’s Strategic Roadmap priorities – Connecting, Achieving, and Preparing – and reflect the community’s expectation of responsible stewardship.

1. Capacity and Facility Updates

Updating our facilities ensures every student, no matter their school or educational setting, has access to appropriate, high-quality learning environments.

  • Rationale – Centennial's enrollment is modestly growing, and many buildings are at or near capacity. The district's educational delivery methods have also evolved, requiring flexible spaces to support personalized and collaborative learning. Existing spaces lack the capacity and adaptability necessary to support the expansion of academic and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Key Improvements
    • Expand classrooms and learning commons to support both small-group and whole-class learning, as well as interdisciplinary teaching.
    • Create and sustain career pathway centers for computer science, manufacturing, and medical/healthcare programs at the secondary level.
    • Provide adequate, comparable spaces across all schools for classrooms, gyms, cafeterias, and the arts.
    • Update cafeterias to increase seating capacity and enhance the lunch experience, addressing overcrowding and scheduling conflicts.
    • Restore STEM labs and create flexible learning spaces for group projects and interventions.

2. Facility Maintenance and Fiscal Responsibility

Proactive maintenance protects our investments and ensures Centennial's facilities remain safe, efficient, and ready to serve future generations.

  • Rationale – Centennial has $52 million in identified facility maintenance needs over the next 10 years, including roofs, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and security systems. Without action, these issues will disrupt learning and require emergency repairs that are more costly over time.
  • Key Improvements
    • Replace aging infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency and energy sustainability.
    • Address major systems, such as roofing, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, to prevent failures.

3. Safety and Security Enhancements

Safety is a top priority at Centennial Schools and is foundational to learning and growth. These improvements enhance our security measures while fostering welcoming spaces where students, staff, and families feel protected, valued, and supported.

  • Rationale – Safe and secure facilities are foundational for a thriving school community. Centennial's buildings must meet current and updated safety standards, control visitor access, and improve emergency preparedness.
  • Key Improvements
    • Relocate main offices to the front entrances for controlled visitor access and better visibility.
    • Expand health offices to meet the growing medical needs of students, especially in programs serving high-need populations.
    • Install technology upgrades for security and communication across sites.
    • Provide private conference rooms for confidential parent meetings and student support services.

4. Activities/Athletics and Community Access

Upgraded activities and athletic spaces enhance student experiences and strengthen community connections.

  • Rationale – Centennial's facilities must serve the school district and the community. Current athletic and activity spaces are strained due to increased participation, limiting opportunities for physical education, extracurricular activities, and community engagement.
  • Key Improvements
    • Build a 4-station fieldhouse with locker rooms, a weight room/fitness center, and an elevated walking track.
    • Renovate and expand athletic facilities, including synthetic turf fields, tennis courts, and updated pool areas.
    • Enhance circulation and parking to manage traffic effectively during events, with dedicated entrances for buses and vehicles.
    • Provide flexible, multipurpose spaces that can be used by school programs and local organizations.
