For the 2019-2020 school year, 140 mentors which includes Centennial High School students, Golden Lake staff, and community members, will be matched with students at Golden Lake Elementary. The program, called MWorks, has been partnering with the high school and the community to mentor youth at the school since 2001.

Darrell Thompson kicked off the training session in May for high school students so they are prepared to begin mentoring students in the fall. Thompson played football for the University of Minnesota and for the Green Bay Packers. He's now the president of Bolder Options, a youth mentoring nonprofit focused on healthy youth development and serves at-risk youth. Thompson says mentoring is "the chance to make a difference in someone's life."
