Centennial is a Winner at the State Future Problem Solving Competition

Students Advance to the International Competition

Centennial Middle School was host to 75 teams plus several individual and Community Problem Solvers coming from all over the state of Minnesota to compete in the State Future Problem Solving Competition on March 29. 

Centennial had five teams and an individual competing - a total of 24 students. Seventeen of those students have qualified to compete at the International Competition either as regular competitors or alternates.

The Centennial High School team of Freshmen Kelly Couillard, Solveig Stensland, Nina Vang and Madeline White took first place in the middle division where there were a total of 25 teams competing. The Centennial Middle School team of Alli Athman, Evan Baker, Spencer Ekstrom and Meghan Smude took third place in that same division. Both of these teams will compete at the International Competition, June 12-15 at Iowa State University.

In the junior division, 35 teams competed. The Rice Lake Elementary team of Amelia Beddow, Victoria Kurdyumov, Ellie Leonard and Sarah Vlasich took second place and have also been invited to compete at the International Competition. The Centennial Middle School team of Lauren Couillard, Kaiza Haque, Christopher Meng and Dane Stensland (5th grade at RLE) took third place. These four students, along with Greta Panait will compete in a separate Alternates Division at the International Competition.

The Future Problem Solving International Competition has students from over 35 states and 15 different countries. The subject matter for the competition will be "Space."
