Christopher Meng Receives Star of the North Award

Christopher Meng, an eighth grade student at Centennial Middle School, is the recipient of the 2016 Minnesota Educators of the Gifted and Talented (MEGT) Star of the North Award.  Meng, the only state winner, was recognized at the annual MEGT conference held January 31-February 2 in Brainerd.

 Meng’s academic strengths include participation in the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program, Continental Math League, Word Masters, and received State and National recognition from Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search. This year marks Meng’s fifth year of participation in the Future Problem Solving Program where he qualified for State Competition his first year and competed at the International Competition for the past three years. Meng is a member of the Centennial Middle School Student Council and is also an accomplished pianist.

Minnesota Educators of the Gifted and Talented annually recognize one student in the state from grades five-eight for their distinguished academic achievement, leadership or for their accomplishments in the visual or performing arts. Eligible students may be nominated by parents, teachers, students or a community/civic group.
