Garrett Hanson and Tara Chapman, Centennial High School seniors, have been nominated for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Academics, Arts and Athletics Award (Triple A), School Activities Director Brian Hegseth announced today.
Established in 1988, the Triple A Award acknowledges a male and female high school senior with a 3.0 GPA, or higher, who participates in athletics, fine arts, theater, speech and music. Both Hanson and Chapman are participants in a variety of programs at Centennial High School and involved in our communities.
Hanson’s awards and activities at Centennial include Varsity Boys Soccer; Varsity Football (kicker); Band—Trumpet, Contest Solo/Ensemble—“Superior” rating, Wind Ensemble; Marching Band; Choir—Tenor Section Leader, Minnesota All-State Choir, All-Conference Choir, Contest Solo/Duet—“Superior” rating; National Honor Society; PSEO student, Northwestern University; Peer Leader; Church Vocalist.
Chapman’s awards and activities at Centennial include Varsity Swimming—Captain, All-Conference, All-State, and All-American Designation; Swim Scholarship, University of Minnesota; Varsity Track, All-Conference, State Track Meet; Band—Oboe, Clarinet, Wind Ensemble, Contest Solo/Ensemble—“Superior” rating; Marching Band, Peer Leader.
The MSHSL’s Administrative Regions will review the Triple A nominees from its member schools. Centennial is in Region 5AA and will compete with 16 schools. The top male and female students in the state, as determined by a points system, will be announced by MSHSL officials in March. For more information see www.mshsl.org .
