Powerpack Program Feeds Centennial Students in Need

May 23, 2018

There is strength in numbers, and the number of volunteers who continue to support the Centennial Community Powerpack program is impressive. Powerpack serves all nine Centennial schools, providing weekend food to students who are experiencing hunger; with an impact that contributes toward improved school performance and academic success. With support from the Centennial Community Food Shelf and ISD 12, as well as financial gifts from caring Quad area businesses and citizens, Powerpack has had a positive effect on the lives of children in our community for five years. For the 2017-2018 school year, through 1,465 volunteer hours.

  • 266 Students were served weekly
  • 10,100+ Powerpacks were delivered (a $25,250 value)
  • 27,360+ Pounds of food were distributed

The Powerpack program is lead solely by volunteers and relies on monetary and food donations. Each pack contains individual servings of breakfast, meal and snack items, many of which are purchased at a steep discount through the Second Harvest Food Bank; meaning donation dollars are maximized. With this cost savings and items received from food drives and donations, the price per weekend pack has been kept to around $2.50 per student.

This program could not continue without the support of local businesses, private donations, community food drives and fundraising, and the cooperation of Centennial Schools and our local food shelf. The Powerpack Leadership Team sends a special thanks to all who have helped in this effort to address hunger issues in our community!

Powerpack is a non-profit 501c3 organization under the Centennial Community Food Shelf and donations are tax deductible. Donations can be sent to CCFS, PO Box 8, Circle Pines, MN 55014. Please include “Powerpack” in the memo line.
