Student's Design is the Winner of the Fete des Lacs Logo Art Contest

In Ms. Herrick's Centennial Middle School 8th grade art class, Cadence Dempsey and Cinnia Chan received  first and second place awards, respectfully, for the 2019 Fete des Lacs logo art contest from Jeff Paar, Centerville Mayor.

The logo developed by Dempsey will be featured on posters promoting Fete des Lacs and the 5K/8K runners' t-shirts. A panel of three judges unanimously selected Dempsey's entry as the winner. Her work was selected as it best featured the 2019 Fete des Lacs theme: Tribute to the Troops. Chan's logo was chosen as runner-up out of 12 entries from Ms. Herrick's and Mr. Magnuson's art classes. 

Mayor Paar thanked the students, art teachers, and the Middle School and Centerville Elementary School principals for their enthusiastic support for the logo art contest at an awards ceremony. The winners received awards of $200 and $100. All of the students were treated to Dairy Queen ice cream.

The art contest is a new Fete des Lacs event. The Centerville City Council has had long standing objectives of incorporating the local schools, Wargo Nature Center, and the lakes in the City's annual celebration. The logo art contest is the first real attempt to include the students. 

Fete des Lacs 2019 kicks off with Music in the Park on Tuesday, July 16 and runs through Sunday, July 21. Visit www.fetedeslacs.org for more information.
