U.S. Department of Education Recognizes Centennial Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School

September 24, 2020

The United States Department of Education recognized Centennial Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School for their work to close the academic achievement gap and demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels. This is the first time in the Centennial School District’s history an elementary school has won the Blue Ribbon award.

Centennial Elementary was one of only eight schools in the state of Minnesota to receive this outstanding recognition this year. We’ll be in the history books! More information on the National Blue Ribbon Award can be found here.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The National Blue Ribbon Schools flag gracing a school's building is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. National Blue Ribbon Schools are an inspiration and a model for schools still striving for excellence. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards.

The Department of Education will formally recognize recipients of this national award on November 12 and 13, 2020. The 2020 cohort of 367 schools represent public and non-public elementary, middle and high schools, including traditional, charter, magnet schools, parochial and independent schools in 46 States, the District of Columbia and Department of Defense Education Activity schools in Alabama at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Germany and Japan.

The school was selected to apply for the National Blue Ribbon School award in the winter of 2020. This award belongs to everyone in our Centennial Elementary community—our families, students, and staff.

Congratulations!
