Centennial follows the Minnesota Department of Health's recommendation of testing its drinking supply sources (drinking water taps used for consumption) every five years. To reduce the levels in drinking water:

Flush Taps Before Use

The District will flush the taps of water sources that test above the threshold by running water for two to three minutes prior to using it for drinking or food preparation to reduce lead levels in the water.

Remove and Replace Fixtures and Materials as Needed

The District will remove drinking fountains from hallways and classrooms that test above the threshold. Those fixtures will be replaced and re-tested to insure the problem is resolved.

The Centennial School District uses a licensed, professional pest control service for the prevention and control of rodents, insects, and other pests in and around district buildings. The program consists of:

1. Inspection and monitoring to determine whether pests are present, and whether treatment is needed;
2. Recommendations for maintenance and sanitation to help eliminate pests without pest control materials;
3. Use of non-chemical measures such as traps, caulking and screening; and
4. Application of Environment Protection Agency registered pest control materials when needed.

Pests can sting, bite, cause contamination, damage property, and spread disease; therefore, the district must work to prevent and control them. The long-term health effects from applications of pest control materials, or the class of materials to which they belong, may not be fully understood. All pest control materials are chosen and applied according to label directions per federal law.

Estimated schedules of pest control (interior and school grounds) inspections and possible treatments are available for review or copying at each school office. Parents may request to receive, at their expense, prior notification of application of pest control material, should such an application be deemed necessary on a day different from the days specified in the schedule.

Regular practices of cleaning and disinfecting have been implemented, including a schedule for routine cleaning and disinfecting of occupied spaces, including but not limited to: classrooms, gyms, cafeteria, common areas, work surfaces, equipment, tools and machinery, vehicles, meeting rooms, and drop-off and pick-up locations. Frequent cleaning and disinfecting are being conducted on high-touch areas. 

Appropriate and effective cleaning and disinfecting supplies have been purchased and are available for use in accordance with product labels, safety data sheets and manufacturer specifications, and are being used with required personal protective equipment for the product. 

All staff are trained on how to safely use cleaning and disinfecting supplies. The custodians perform thorough cleaning and disinfecting every night. 

All students and staff are encouraged to continuously wash their hands throughout the day (between every activity, at every transition, before after mealtimes, after bathroom use, before and after outside, etc.).

In accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Centennial School District has asbestos management plans for each school available for inspection, without cost or restriction. Centennial School District applies fertilizer and other related products to grassy areas throughout the district. All products are chosen and applied according to label directions. Estimated schedules and Safety Data Sheets are available for public review by contacting the district office.
