Holiday ResourcesSalvation Army Toy Shop

The Salvation Army Toy Shop provides parents a chance to shop for free gifts for their children. We provide toys for newborns to 14-year-olds, at six different locations around the metro area.

 Registration for Toy Shop runs through Friday, Dec. 5. 2014.  Families can register online or by calling 651-746-3595, Monday through Friday, from 9a.m.-4p.m.

Applications for assistance will begin Monday, October 27, 2014. The last day to apply is Wednesday, December 10. Apply in person at the Neighbors office (lower level). To qualify you must live in Inver Grove Heights, Lilydale, Mendota, Mendota Heights, South St Paul, Sunfish Lake or West St Paul. Hours for applications are from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 – 4:00 p.m. There will be no sign-up on Friday, November 28th and Friday, December 5.

 To receive an application you must bring with you:

  • Picture identification
  • A current utility bill,
  • If you have children school age or younger, you will need to bring with a birth certificate for child, or proof of child from Dakota County or a letter from the school they attend showing child’s name and your name

PRISM Santa Shop provides holiday presents approximately 2 weeks before the holidays. Call (763) 529-1350 for more information. To be eligible, you must live in Golden Valley, South of 42nd Avenue in Crystal, New Hope, or Robbinsdale, or East of 494 in Plymouth. Exceptions may be made if you were referred by a local church or are currently homeless.

 For appointments call (763) 529-1350 to schedule, and bring a photo ID, proof of residence (recent piece of mail) and proof of each child’s birthdate

To help capture your special moment, our photographer, Jill Hotujec Photography, is also an Occupational Therapist who specializes in photographing children with special needs. Kid friendly activities will be provided while families wait for their turn. Santa will be in a quiet, sensory friendly environment where only one family at a time will be permitted for a one- of-a-kind experience with your child.

To receive your family’s FREE photograph by email please bring a new or gently used toy, book, game, or outdoor winter clothing.

The Food Group

The Food Group, formerly Emergency Foodshelf Network, is a local hunger relief nonprofit focused on healthy food access. The Food Group can help you find a local food shelf. The Food Group also offers a program called Baskets of Hope that allows families facing hunger the opportunity to gather around the table and enjoy a holiday as a family. Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes is a nonprofit meal program in Minnesota, serving hot meals to those in need. They will be serving a Thanksgiving meal at the following locations, Salvation Army Temple Corps and River of Life in Minneapolis, Dorothy and St. Matt's in St. Paul, Esther’s in Marshall as well as Easter Lutheran in Eagan. Call for more information 612.377.9810. Please note they serve regular hot meals throughout the year in addition to the Thanksgiving meal.

Miscellaneous Resources

HeatShare-Salvation Army

Helps families in need by providing year-round emergency assistance for their heating and utility bills. Funds are typically used to pay for natural gas, oil, propane, wood, electricity and emergency furnace repairs. HeatShare is offered at most Salvation Army operation centers in Minnesota and North Dakota. In communities where HeatShare funding isn’t available, other Salvation Army partners may have resources.
